Collaborative Script Inspiration/Playwriting Session

with Lisa Nicoll

The aim is to work on collaborative writing in a room and how you can work with a stimulus to tell a story with thematic links that has plot, characters and locations that just tell an inspiring story and is not about the ‘issue’

Led by Lisa Nicoll and using the Scottish Eatwell Guide as a stimulus, we will work as a collaborative group to create and write/devise short pieces of theatre which are inspired by the foods that are reared and grown on the land of Scotland and the people who are part of the process.

Through this writing we will be able to highlight the benefits of food which comes from the land and sea of Scotland, food swaps that can be made in everyday life and the obstacles that are presented to us in making our choices, how these can be overcome and the consequences of our choices.

The work created will be shared during the Business/Creative Hub Lunch in July/August at Perth Theatre

This workshop is fun, informative and has a people centred approach to support and keep motivated.

Lisa uses a human based approach and often links with how we ourselves act and live in our everyday life and respond and react to the world around us. As a playwright Lisa has been comissioed and toured work for In Motion Theatre Company and has developed a plethora or short plays with In Motion, The Tron Theatre which have been filmed, performed and many gone onto full production,

Tandem Theatre Collective

 Jennifer Adam and Mhairi Quinn

From Scratch Night to Development to Commission – Yes It’s Possible!

Join playwright’s  and two thirds of Tandem Writing Collective, Jennifer Adam & Mhairi Quinn for an inspirational session of how through hard work and dedication you can go from writing and performing self-funded scratch nights to receiving funding to developing and growing your scripts for performance and commission.

Tandem is a female led writing collective established and run by playwrights, Jennifer Adam, Amy Hawes and Mhairi Quinn. They travel between Edinburgh and Glasgow showcasing their plays and linking up with grassroots theatre makers as they go.  Tandem has new writing at its heart. The collective was formed to create and perform short topical pieces of experimental theatre featuring live music, often composed specifically for individual productions by Dr Aaron McGregor. Since its inception in 2016 they have produced 58 short plays at 26 events including at 2 festivals, Formation Festival in Edinburgh and Rep Stripped in Dundee. In 2022 Tandem embarked on its biggest project to date - The Rock, Paper, Scissors Trilogy - developing three 20 minute plays into three 50 minute plays, performed script in hand at the Traverse in Edinburgh and the Tron in Glasgow in Spring 2023 and 2024. This project also included Tandem's first Musical!

One of Jennifer’s plays that was developed through Tandem - Ivor - was commissioned by Oran Mor’s Play, Pie, and a Pint as part of their Spring/Summer 2025 Programme.. Her play Walk a Mile was one of five plays that won the Scottish Short Play Award in 2017, which also began its life as part of a Tandem Production. She  has also written plays for festivals, radio and schools.

Mhairi’s theatre work has been performed all across Scotland and, aside from her work with Tandem, her most recent play ‘Billie’ successfully completed a tour of 58 schools across the country, funded by Fast Forward and Gamble Aware. Mhairi was selected by the BBC Writersroom for the ‘BBC Scottish Voices’ and also the ‘BBC Children’s New Voices’ schemes. She has worked on a variety of children’s TV shows such as ‘Roots and Fruits’ for CBeebies and is currently working on a new pre-school series set for CBeebies screens in 2026
